About the Recipe
Old Fashioned Southern Cornbread! This makes delicious dressing, and of course it is fabulous with any meal; beans, greens, chicken, and dumplings you name it, it pairs well with it!! my cornbread dressing recipe is coming up. Stay tuned.
Ingredients
1 cup all purpose, flourÂ
1 cup yellow cornmealÂ
1 tablespoon of sugar (for sweet cornbread, and 3 to 4 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon baking powderÂ
1 teaspoon baking sodaÂ
6 tablespoons of melted butterÂ
2 tablespoons of butter (to coat your cast iron)
1 large slightly beaten egg
1 cup of buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon salt Â
Preparation
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix until well combined.
Add the 2 tablespoons of butter your cast iron skillet and place in the preheating oven. Carefully remove when the butter is frothy.
Pour cornbread batter into the skillet, spread to the edges of the skillet.
Cook for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
