Create a Cozy Atmosphere with Homemade Spiced Pear Stovetop Potpourri

I just love everything about fall! The colors, the smells, the weather! It's all so beautiful to me. Bringing the outside scents into my home creates a warm and cozy feeling that just adore! I remember years ago I used to buy a tart fragrance that Hallmark carried called Spice Pear. The smell was so warm and inviting, I loved everything about it. When they discontinued the scent I was very disappointed. I'm so happy to share my Spiced Pear Stovetop Potpourri with you in my 2023 Fall Series!

I was in my early 20s at the time, my daughter was starting school and I was going through a very difficult time in my personal life. I remember the first day I dropped my daughter off at school, I came home, put one of the spiced pear fragrance tarts in my warmer, and had prayer time. That prayer time was just what I needed to lift my spirits and rejuvenate me for the rest of the week. I'll never forget that moment and the spiced pear smell is a significant part of that for me. It laid the foundation for my prayer time which I still enjoy today.

I've done the best I can to re-create the spiced pear fragrance in my stove-top potpourri. I've made several versions of this until I got it as close as I could, and I must say this one is just about spot on!

It brought b

ack all of those warm feelings from my prayer time back then and I'm just thrilled about it!

Fresh Pears & Ginger

Bartlett Pear for Spice Pear Stovetop Potpourri

For this stovetop potpourri, I used 2 types of fresh pears, a Bartlett pean, and a Concord pear. The Bartlett pear is soft, sweet, and really juicy whereas the Concord is firmer, not as sweet, and does as much juiciness to it. I prefer the Bartlett pear for this potpourri because it releases more of the pear fragrance when simmering. If you do not have Bartlett pear at your local grocer opt for the softest pear in the selections available to you. Softer pears tend to be the sweetest, thus holding more of the pear juice.

Ginger for Spiced Pear Stovetop Potpourri

Use fresh ginger and not powdered. I used a piece of ginger that was about one inch in width and length, and then I sliced it up. Oh my, what a wonderful smell releases when slicing ginger! I just love it!

Ingredients Needed for Spiced Pear Stovetop Potpourri

4 cups of water

2 Fresh Pears, sliced

1 inch fresh ginger, sliced

2 cinnamons sticks

1 tbsp. cloves

Directions

Add all ingredients to a pot and simmer on low for up to 2 to 3 hours at a time.

** Special Notes **

Your potpourri pot can simmer for up to 3 hours, just keep adding water as needed so that it will not burn. I will sometimes let my potpourri pot simmer all day when I know I'm going to be home.
